How to effectively and safely get rid of woodworms in chairs?

כסאות בר עץ

Wooden furniture is very popular, and the reason for this is clear: they are impressive, durable, spread around them energies of strength and tenderness at the same time, and above all contribute to the prestigious and respectable look of any space. Unfortunately, there are also insects that really like wooden furniture, and in particular woodworms may be found inside the upholstered chairs. On this page you will find information about the possible ways of dealing with the problem, so that you can conduct yourself in an informed and efficient manner.

How do you know there are worms in the chairs?

The woodworms in chairs (and of course also in other furniture) are divided into 2 main types: Helixus and the furniture worm. The Helix worms are the smallest, and their length is 5 mm at most, while the furniture roundworm may also reach a size of about 2 cm. The color of the Lexus is brown or black, and the furniture is characterized by a light shade. Both types are characterized by a plump appearance, and as long as they are inside the tree it is impossible to distinguish them. When they develop and emerge from the chair (or from the table, dresser, etc.), there will be exit holes in the furniture. Another sign is a kind of dust near the chair, when in fact it is not dust but the sawdust of the tree, such as was created as a result of the gnawing of the worms.

When you recognize one of the above signs, you should call in a pest control company with experience in dealing with this specific hazard. By the way, you should know that the larvae of the furniture beetle grow at a very slow rate: only after two years, and sometimes even more, they turn into worms. The Helix develops a little faster, if Because even for this species of worms, the transition to the adult form takes up to 9 months. The obvious conclusion is that if you saw worms, larvae have probably already been in the chair for a long time, so very quick action is required.

The most effective action - evaporation

A professional exterminator who comes to you will first perform a comprehensive monitoring - to understand exactly where there are worms: in which chairs, is there also the presence of harmful insects in other furniture, etc. Another required action is to make sure that it is really the lixus or the furniture bug and not, for example, termites (which look like very bright ants, in contrast to the chubby appearance of the worms). If indeed the furniture is infested with worms, the most effective action is evaporation.

How is furniture infested with worms steamed?

The vaporizer is gas based. The chair is wrapped well and then a gas is injected inside that destroys the worms. Since this is a very toxic substance, the disinfection is not carried out at the customer's house but at a designated site for vaporization. It is important to note that not every company that provides pest control services is certified to carry out fumigation - a specific license is required for this. There is another method for exterminating the harmful worms, without toxic substances, and that is anoxia. With this method, oxygen is prevented from passing to the chair, and the worms simply suffocate to death. This method is not common because it is more expensive than iodine and also requires a much longer wait - about two months instead of about a week and a half.
